The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
1925
★★★✰✰
So I read this book a while ago.  I'm still unsure of what to think of it.  I know it is an American classic that everyone loves but I was a little iffy.  All I could think of what Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan and how obnoxious they are.  Maybe I needed to be in a different frame of mind.

The Madness of King George

The Madness of King George directed by Nicholas Hytner
1994
★★★★✰
So I didn't know too much about this movie or this king.  Turns out the movie was good and the story quite fascinating.  Well worth a look.

Cars Toon: Mater's Tall Tales

Cars Toon: Mater's Tall Tales directed by John Lasseter
2010
★★★✰✰
So I am not too sure how this got so high up on our queue but my kids loved it.  I saw some of it and actually laughed out loud a few times.  It's really just a bunch of shorts that were most likely shown on the Disney channel trying to promote the DVD of Cars.

Due Date

Due Date directed by Todd Phillips
2010
★★✰✰✰
So I was expecting a little more from this film.  It was just plain dumb at times and way too unbelievable.  Still, Zach Galifanakis is funny.  A little more funny considering all the Charlie Sheen references and the Charlie Sheen fiasco going on now.

Winter's Bone

Winter's Bone directed by Debra Granik
2010
★★★✰✰
So I knew this would be a downer and it was.  Man there are some crazies in the Ozarks!

It's Kind of a Funny Story

It's Kind of a Funny Story directed by Ryan Fleck
2010
★★★★✰
So I didn't know anything about this film before watching it.  It was very good.  I enjoyed Craig's inner thought sequences.  The "Under Pressure" part was fantastic.  Great movie.

The 39 Steps

The 39 Steps directed by Alfred Hitchcock
1935
★★★✰✰
So I needed to see this film since it is a supposed Hitchcock classic.  When we started the film, I did not realize it was so old.  I felt like I was watching an old Sherlock Holmes movie at times.  When I think of Hitchcock films, I immediately think of Rear Window and North by Northwest, amazing films from the 1950s.  I guess it just shows how incredible Alfred Hitchcock was to have a career span five decades.

Nowhere Boy

Nowhere Boy directed by Sam Taylor Wood
2009
★★★★✰
So I was interested in this film when I saw the trailer because I love The Beatles.  This was a great movie with a good deal of insight into the early years of John Lennon.  I liked how they never mentioned the Beatles throughout the entire film.

The A-Team

The A-Team directed by Joe Carnahan
2010
★★✰✰✰
So I loved The A-Team growing up.  Fantastic shootouts (in which no one was killed), creative MacGyvery and the awesome theme song.  This movie was much more violent then the television show, not as funny and without the theme song!  I would have easily given this another star is they put that music in...

Happy Feet

Happy Feet directed by George Miller
2006
★★★✰✰
So I had seen this film before but since the kids are sick, we watched it.  I ended up watching it too.  Cute, annoying at times but there is some good music (Beach Boys!).

Despicable Me

Despicable Me directed by Pierre Coffin
2010
★★✰✰✰
So I really wanted to see this but do to the health of our family, I only caught snippets of it.  Funny at times but way to predictable, even for a kids movie.
